When I think back to my younger years when I wasn’t so health-conscious, I cringe at the thought of all the synthetic cleaners and “air fresheners” I used to use. Products that were laden with chemicals and full of powerful fragrance. To top it off, I would spend quite a bit of money on these products just to toxify my environment. I now know there is a more affordable way to clean and freshen my surroundings that is not harmful to me or my loved ones and it starts with essential oils.

Essential oils seem to be all of the rage right now and for good reason. There are many different kinds of essential oils and not all are created equal. You can read more about that in another post. For now, I want to share a really easy, DIY air freshener recipe. This air freshener is great for people who are new to essential oils and aren’t ready to diffuse them. For those who do already diffuse, this air freshener is a great addition to your cleaning regimen. Have it on hand to quickly freshen a room when you don’t have a diffuser ready or time to diffuse. I have found it can be used on rugs, pillows, couches, etc. without any staining.

Supplies Needed:

1 spray bottle (at least 8 ounces)

lemon essential oil

1 cup of water

Directions: Fill a spray bottle with 1 cup of water. Add 10-20 drops of lemon essential oil.

To Use: Shake bottle vigorously several times and then spray in an area you are wanting to freshen up.
